The weekly trip to the CSA has begun! It’s the first week of the season for Supernatural Organics.
The weather in Iowa this week has been brutally hot (mid-90s with a pretty hefty dose of humidity), so I do not know if that slowed down some of the plants for the first week. Shane, however, did reassure me that lots of stuff is coming in nicely and this is a departure from last year when rain seemed to delay planting or ruin what was in the ground. Here is to hoping for a great season!
The bounty this week included asparagus, spinach, green onions, and a healthy bunch of cilantro. The asparagus was gone on Monday night for an early evening snack following a dinner of leftovers. The spinach and green onions are slated for the salad that goes with me to work every day after I workout. Unlike a lot of people who consider cilantro a noxious weed I do like the taste and smell of the herb, but I have a heck of a time trying to figure out recipes. A friend suggested putting it in rice as a way to jazz that somewhat bland staple up a little bit. We shall see.
