It’s kräusen!

Once the yeast starts to work its magic, a nice crusty layer of foam forms on the top of the wort indicating that beer is being made.  It’s the kräusen.  According to Wikipedia the word has origins in a German term for “frizzy” hair.  I do not see a resemblance:

This picture was taken approximately 24 hours after I completed the making of the wort and it is bubbling away.  Good times.
