In Town Raptor

On my walk around the “duck” pond at Rockwell Collins’ C Avenue campus in Cedar Rapids, I saw this fellow:

Just perched on the edge of the building after a series of lazy circles above the pond.  I know it’s a little thing, but seeing these raptors in town makes me happy.

It appears that this is a red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) which can adapt quite well to urban conditions.  On power lines bordering farm fields throughout the area it is a common sight to see these birds of prey “shopping” for a meal.
