The Joni Ernst Watch 4/20/2014

I realize that for a segment of the population that shares my political beliefs today is dedicated to medicating via herbal methods. Enjoy.

When it comes to Joni “Make ‘em squeal” Ernst or Steve King it’s clown shoes all day, every day. Recently, the conversation in Iowa has turned away from our homegrown whack-a-doos and focused on the nutcase circus that will be the Republican caucus.

The IRS is just a dog whistle for the right wing. Joni did her best last week to throw some tax rhetoric to her base by announcing the following on April 15th:

Today is another painful reminder for Iowans of the frustrations they face due to our outdated and complicated tax code. Tax filing must be made easier for all Americans. Now is the time for Washington to come together to iron out loopholes to lower rates and create jobs, rather than just paying for more out of control government spending. Americans deserve a fairer, flatter and simpler tax system, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to achieve commonsense, comprehensive tax reform.

Sure, just show me which corporate loophole you want to eliminate and I will lower the corporate tax rate a commensurate percentage. Simple zero sum game.

Steve King, Iowa’s resident nut job in Congress, is no better when it comes to calling for the end of the IRS at the end of a long screed about taxation.

Then again, Steve King sounds almost reasonable talking about the IRS when you compare that to his statements about immigration. The latest bits of King-infused wisdom go something like this:

To put it simply, the President is importing millions of illegal aliens who when they arrive here he thinks, and he’s right, they are undocumented Democrats, and so the next phase of this is to document these Democrats so they can vote.

Wow. Does this guy see conspiracy lurking around every bush when he goes on a walk?

Somehow, Marco Rubio has managed to alienate every constituency that might help him get elected president.  I guess that qualifies as presidential in right wing circles. I call it pandering to the fascist component of the right wing.
