When it comes to Joni “Make ‘em squeal” Ernst or Steve King it’s clown shoes all day, every day. Recently, the conversation in Iowa has turned away from our homegrown whack-a-doos and focused on the nutcase circus that will be the Republican caucus.
Naturally, the clown car that is the 2016 presidential hopefuls will be making an appearance as Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Marco Rubio are all slated to attend. Those are just the announced candidates. Lurkers like Lindsey Graham, Rick Perry, and Scott Walker are also on the speaker list.
You have to love Steve King. The guy can make headlines without the news cycle offering him an opportunity because he creates the news cycle. This time he is blaming President Obama—naturally—for inciting the riots across the U.S. over police violence because of the so-called “beer summit” he hosted between Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and James Crowley.
Think about that for a minute. Steve King believes that the recent surge in anti-police rhetoric and violence has nothing to do with police behavior toward communities of color, but a beer shared between three people several years ago is the catalyst.
Ben Carson trotted out that tried and true campaign tactic of marginal right wingers everywhere…the flat tax! It’s so simple you can file your tax return on a post card. Too bad it usually fails any exhaustive criticism.
Scott Walker is turning out to be the creepy guy with the strange ideas that no one can remember inviting to the party, but he is there nonetheless. This time his grand vision includes having doctors lie to patients.
A lot of ink has been spilled about progressives victory in Alberta, Canada during recent elections and the comparisons began with people looking to Texas. Sorry folks, but what happened in the oil soaked Canadian province will not happen in the oil soaked U.S. state.
Note: There will be no Joni Ernst Watch posted on 5/25/2015 due to the Memorial Day holiday. I have a four day weekend scheduled and I am going to enjoy being lazy.
