When it comes to Joni “Make ‘em squeal” Ernst or Steve King it’s clown shoes all day, every day. Recently, the conversation in Iowa has turned away from our homegrown whack-a-doos and focused on the nutcase circus that will be the Republican caucus.
Ted Cruz is so toxic to some in the Republican party that Iowa’s own “aw shucks” governor Terry Branstad woke up from his mandated slumber to announce:
…I think it would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him.
Damn. For a guy who generally says nothing at all this was something.
Only one week until Iowa’s first in the nation caucus goes down and we could be looking at a victorious Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. Think about that reality for a moment. Let it sink in. Let it marinate. For all of the Democratic handwringing over a lack of a deep bench of candidates to follow Obama, the best the Republicans could come up with was Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. That was literally the best that the party could do.
I am going to postpone publishing a Joni Ernst Watch until the day following the caucus for obvious reasons. I am guessing that there is going to be some serious quotable moments coming out of the candidates’ mouths.
